Why you need a revenue goal

Why you need a revenue goal

💥Directs your business strategy

💥Provides a goal to work towards

💥Helps with annual planning

💥Helps with pricing individual projects

-Let’s set your revenue goal…

 STEP 1

What is your current financial situation

-how much revenue did you make last year

-how many projects did you work on

-what were your expenses last year

Were you happy with this outcome

STEP 2

Set a revenue goal for the year

-your revenue goal should be made up of: your ideal take home pay+tx+expenses

-Take home pay: how much do you want to take home in pay after tax+ expenses are paid

-Tax

-Expenses

.add how much you spent last year+ a little bit more

-Add these together to get your revenue goal for the year

STEP 3

Break down your revenue goal into manageable segments

-Divide your annual revenue goal into manageable segment- e.g. a monthly target…

-If you choose monthly remember that your business is most likely seasonal so factor this into your calculations (December/January tend to be quiet months but March/April tend to be busier)

STEP 4

Set a strategy for hitting your monthly /quarterly revenue target

Example:

-your annual revenue target is 100 000$ (home pay+ your pay+tax+expenses)

-your quarterly target is 25 000$/quarter

-your average project cost last year was 10 000$/project

-this means you need 2.5 projects per quarter to hit your annual revenue target

-which is about one per month (taking into account seasonality)

 STEP 5

Laser focus your attention on lead generation

-using the numbers on previous slide you now know how many projects you need each month to hit your annual revenue target

-your monthly goal is now to work out how to get that number of clients

-this longer topic-but your guiding question should be:

’’What lead generation activities do I need to do EVERY DAY in order to bring in X paying clients per month”

 STEP 6

Regular monthly review:

-review your revenue and expenses every month track your progress

-I do this on the 1st of each month for the month that has just gone using my ‘’business reset and review template’’ in Notion

Setting a revenue goal will help you price your design projects (and give you a target to work towards every month). Let’s set yours for 2025!

Support Your Customers

Your company’s most vital asset is its customers, so you need to make sure you’re dealing with your customers properly. Without them, you would not, and could not, exist in business. Sure, you can attract new customers with unique products, free gifts, or reducing your prices; but if you’re not creating relationships with them, they’re not going to return or recommend you.
